  • The Cricket World Cup is held every four years and is the pinnacle of One Day International (ODI) cricket. The event is organised by the ICC (International Cricket Council) and is contested by all Test and ODI international sides together with other countries that have to qualify. The 2015 Cricket World Cup is expected to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand with the venue of the final yet to be decided.

    The format used in the Cricket World Cup features 14 teams allocated to 2 groups. They then play in a round-robin format with the top four of each group advancing to the quarter-finals knockout stage. The winners then advance to the semi-finals and the winners of those to the final.

    Only five nations have won the Cricket World Cup with Australia the most successful having won it on 4 occasions. The West Indies and India have won twice whilst Pakistan and Sri Lanka have won once.
