English League 1 Betting Information

  • League 2 was introduced in 2004 and was formerly known as the Football League 3rd Division since the Premier League was formed in 1992. It was originally known as the old 4th Division and is still recognised as the 4th tier of English football. Currently it's referred to as the Npower League 2 for sponsorship reasons.

League 2 currently comprises 24 clubs and each club plays every other side home and away. 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a defeat. The bottom 2 clubs are relegated to the Conference whilst 2 teams are automatically promoted from the Conference plus the winners of the Conference play-offs. The top 3 League 2 sides are automatically promoted to League 1 whilst the next 4 top sides compete in the play-offs with the winner also gaining promotion.
