  • The World Snooker Championship is the leading ranking professional snooker tournament with regards to ranking points and prize money. The biggest snooker competition has been running since 1927 and has been played at the home of snooker, the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, since 1977.

    In 1969 the World Snooker Championship reverted to a knock-out tournament from a challenge format and is now considered the epitome of the modern game. Stephen Hendry has been th most successful having won the Championship seven times whilst Steve Davis and Ray Reardon have both won on six occasions.
